Despite the premature end to the season, Newport County AFC recognises the importance of the end of season awards to many supporters and thus will be conducting them in the same way as every other season minus the actual physical gathering.
The categories will be the same as usual and cover all parts of the club, including the community.
Outlined below is the detail of each category, who chooses the winner, how supporters can get involved and the all-important results announcement.
Club Awards
Ray Taylor Fair Play Award - The recipient of this award is chosen by Richard Taylor
This award is in memory of former supporter and director, Ray Taylor. This award goes to a player who has shown great character throughout the season and who plays the game in the best spirit.
Doc Heffernan Shield for Young Player of The Year – The recipient of this award is chosen by the First Team Manager Michael Flynn
This award is traditionally presented by the Heffernan Family in memory of the former Club Doctor. This award is presented to Newport County AFC’s Young Player of The Year.
Derek Williams Memorial Trophy for Goal of The Year – The recipient of this award is chosen by the First Team Manager Michael Flynn
Traditionally this achievement is presented by the Board of Directors. The award is presented to the scorer of the Goal of the Year.
Tom Gardner Trophy for Top Goalscorer - This award is presented to Newport County AFC’s Top Goalscorer at the end of each season.
An award presented and annually funded by Hazel Neale of North Shields, in memory of her father, Tom Gardner, who was for many years the Commissionaire at Somerton Park.
Reg Parsons Trophy for Most Appearances - Presented to the Newport County AFC player who has accumulated the most First Team appearances per season.
This award is presented by Tony Parsons in memory of his father Reg, a lifelong supporter.
Brian Toms President’s Cup for Players’ Player of The Season - The recipient of this award is chosen by the First Team Players
An award first presented by the Club’s first President, Brian Toms MBE. This award represents the Player of The Year in the view of the Club’s First Team Players.
Patrons’ Cup for Newport County AFC Player of The Year – The recipient of this award is chosen by the supporters
The Patrons were a group of influential supporters who undertook to help the newly-formed Club in any way they could, including funding the Cup.
Special Recognition Awards – The recipients of these awards are chosen by the Directors
This award was introduced at the end of season 2018/19 to celebrate those whose contribution to the club deserved to be recognised.
Rob Dare Award for Outstanding Contribution within the Academy - The recipient of this award will be chosen by Academy Manager, Damian Broad.
This award is new for the 2019/20 Season in memory of County supporter, Rob Dare, who sadly passed away at the age of 47. Rob had been a lifelong supporter of the club along with his dad John, who has been a supporter since the late 1950s. Alongside supporting the club, Rob also coached youth football in Chepstow. Consequently, Rob’s family find it quite fitting to remember Rob through the award for Outstanding Contribution within the Newport County AFC Academy.
Supporters’ Club Awards - The recipients are chosen by the Committee of the Supporters’ Club
Young Supporter of the Year
This award is presented to an individual that has demonstrated an impressive level of commitment to supporting Newport County AFC at a young age.
Supporter of the Year
Similarly, this Shield is awarded every year to a supporter that has shown an exceptional level of commitment and support throughout that season.
Young Player of the Year
This award is traditionally presented by the Supporters’ Club President, Cath Clarke, in memory of her parents, Jack & Grace Reardon. This award represents the Supporters’ Club’s choice for Young Player of The Year.
Player of the Year
This award represents the Supporters’ Club’s choice of Player of The Year.
Away Player of the Year
On the way home from each away trip, the Supporters’ Club coach vote for their player of the match. The Away Player of the Year is the player who receives the winning number of votes the most times throughout the season.
Disabled Supporters’ Club Awards - The recipient is chosen by members of the DSA
DSA Player of The Year
This award is voted for by the members of the Newport County AFC DSA and considers the on-field performances and off-field work and support.
Community Awards
David Williams Award – Community Player of the Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the Staff of County In The Community.
Newport County AFC – PFA Community Champion
The winner of this award is chosen by the Staff of County In The Community.
John Relish Award – College Programme, Manager’s Player of The Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the College Programme Staff members
Allen Wood Award – College Programme, Players’ Player of The Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the College Programme Staff members
Melin Homes Award – Ladies Manager Player of the Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the Ladies Team Staff members
Accent on education Award – Ladies Players’ Player of The Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the College Programme Staff members
John Macey Award – Walking Football Players’ Player of The Year
The winner of this award is selected by the player’s peers.
Keith Tennant Award – WWTSS Players’ Player of The Year
The winner of this award is chosen by the Staff of County In The Community.

Voting for supporters will be open on 11th June and close on 25th June.
