Manager Michael Flynn insists there are encouraging signs for his squad as they target the three points away to Scunthorpe United in the Sky Bet League Two this weekend.
The trip to the Sands Venue Stadium on Saturday will see County seek their first League win of 2020, having tasted Leasing.Com cup victory in midweek against MK Dons. Read the Match Preview by clicking here.
Scunthorpe were the last team that Newport defeated in the league, but Flynn believes there are indications that the team is getting back to full strength.
Flynn stated, "We’re starting to get the injuries back, starting to get a few fresh faces in, hopefully they can have the effect one or two did when we did this last season.
"We’re going out to get the three points. If the boys play to the best of their abilities and make no mistakes, then we’ll have a very good chance of getting three points.”
Two new recruits, Billy Waters and Dale Gorman could be in line for debuts this weekend, with Flynn already impressed by how they are settling in, "The big thing about them is that they are both really good characters in and around the dressing room.
"Billy gives us that extra bit going forward, with the amount of positions he can play in and the way he finishes, he’s a really good finisher. Dale comes in, who had a really bright start to his career, but not had much of a look-in at Leyton Orient."
Opponents Scunthorpe sit in 14th place in the League table, and Flynn revealed he is unsurprised by their recent form, "I knew they’d pick up, because the squad they’ve got, the Manager, the budget, probably had a bit of a hangover from coming down.
"Just as everyone was writing them off at the start of the season, people are writing us off now. If you look at the table, we’re six points off where we were last season having played two games less."
