Manager Michael Flynn was delighted with Newport County’s 3-0 victory against MK Dons in the Leasing.Com Trophy, and believes NCAFC must take the positives into their upcoming League matches.
First half goals from Tristan Abrahams and Padraig Amond saw off the League One side under the lights at Rodney Parade.
County took the lead within 5 minutes, with Abrahams on hand to finish from close range. An Amond free kick and a flick-on from a corner saw the Exiles enter halftime with a commanding lead.
Newport saw out the second half comfortably, limiting the Dons to few chances and seeing out the game with a clean sheet.
Flynn commented, “It’s 3-0 against a strong MK Dons team and we’re in the Quarter Finals of the Leasing.Com Trophy, so it’s all good. A clean sheet, players coming back from injuries, competition for places, it’s a good result.
“It’s back to a clean sheet again. When we keep a clean sheet, although it sounds stupid, we’ll win the game, we’ll nick a chance. When we’re chasing the game is when we’ll struggle a little bit at the minute.
“We’ve got Scunthorpe next Saturday, which will be really tough. They’ve picked up a lot and we need to get back to winning ways in the league. It’s as simple as that.”
Flynn also revealed that County’s work in the transfer window may not be over, “I’m trying, I’m talking to one or two, maybe three or four if I’m honest.
“I’ve been working very hard, this is probably the most I’ve been on the phone during a window since being a Manager, with calls coming in as well, it’s non-stop.”
