Manager Michael Flynn was impressed by standout performances during Newport County’s 1-0 win over Macclesfield, however Flynn is demanding more of his players ahead of a busy upcoming schedule.
Returning Joss Labadie wore the armband and led the team with a captain’s performance at Rodney Parade, scoring the eventual winner midway through the first half.
Several chances went begging for County to kill off the game, however Flynn was pleased to get back on track, “It was a solid performance.
“We’d like to score more goals and everything but the three points is more important. You see them all working hard for each other, the way they ran off the ball and recovered and chased people down.”
On Labadie’s performance, Flynn was delighted to have his captain back after injury kept him out on the weekend, “I thought he was very good. It shows you what we missed, we missed him on Saturday.
“He’s starting to get back to his old self now on a consistent basis, and he needs to. He needs to and we need him to, so I’m delighted he’s got his goal.”
It wasn’t just Labadie that caught the manager’s eye, with new signing Jordan Green also in line for praise, “I thought Jordan Green was excellent in the first half.
“Even when he was tired, just before he went off you saw what he did. I thought he was excellent tonight. I worked hard to get him because I knew what he could do and you can see it’s paying off at the moment.”
County now face a busy schedule, but Flynn believes they can use it to their advantage, “Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday now. As long as we keep everybody fit, maybe it might be a good thing because we can get some momentum.
“You don’t want it to just flitter out and be a boring end to the season, of course we want to do well.”
