billy waters signs

Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the signing of forward Billy Waters from Sky Bet League Two club Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season.

25-year-old Waters began his career at Crewe Alexandra before moving to Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2015.

In his two year stay at Whaddon Road, Waters found the net 27 times in 69 starts and 24 substitute appearances, firstly helping the club to win promotion back to the EFL and then secure their EFL status in 2016/17.

Billy's form attracted huge interest from other clubs and joined Northampton Town at the beginning of the 2017/18 season.

Following a loan move to Cambridge, Waters re-joined Cheltenham in January 2019 and went on to score four times before re-joining Northampton Town upon the conclusion of last season.

Billy has made 13 appearances so far this campaign for Northampton before joining the Exiles for the remainder of this season.

The forward will wear number 22 whilst at Rodney Parade.

After he put pen to paper, Billy said: "I am buzzing to have signed. I am very happy at how fast it has all been sorted and I am raring to get going now.

I'll run my socks off for the Club and try and do as much as possible to make sure we get the three points and start climbing that table towards the play-offs."

After the signing was completed, Manager Michael Flynn said: "It's great news having Billy in. I have watched him for a number of years and I know he is someone who can play a number of attacking roles.

He will provide that extra bit of impetus going forwards and hopefully bring the team more goals. I am delighted to get Billy in."
