Newport County AFC midfielder Josh Sheehan has been speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s away fixture at Oldham Athletic.
It’s another long trip for County, who travelled to Grimsby just on Tuesday, however Sheehan says the distances aren’t a big issue.
Sheehan stated, “It’s just part of the job. We’re used to it, you’re going to do it throughout the season. Ours just all seem to be at the same time, but it is what it is.”
Sheehan also shared that there is extra motivation in the camp ahead of Saturday, after Oldham won the reverse fixture at Rodney Parade, “We want to go into every game and win.
“Because we lost, we want to go and get one over on them, especially because they beat us at home. It would be nice to go up there and take the three points home.”
The match at Boundary park will also see the Exiles come up against a familiar face in Dino Maamria. Maamria was County’s assistant manager in 2017, so the squad knows all about his coaching values.
Sheehan said, “You know that his teams are going to be hard-working, you know that they’re going to be fit, that they’re going to fight for everything.
“We know what we’re up against, but if we play our game and we’re up to it then we’re confident we can come away with the three points.”
Sheehan also shared that the team is keen to bounce back from the disappointment of the Grimsby defeat, “Motivation is high because we know what we can do.
“We know we were disappointing Tuesday but on the positive side, we scored two which was the main concern a few weeks ago. If we can shut up shop at the back then we have a good chance moving forward.
“We don’t feel like we’ve hit the heights of what this team is capable of and what we did last year, but there’s no reason why we can’t end on a high.
“We’ve just got to take it game by game. If we can go on this run then we know what we’re capable of.”
