Manager Michael Flynn was “proud” of his players as they pushed Salford City all the way before ultimately missing out on a place in the Leasing.Com Trophy final.
Heartbreak in the penalty shoot-out means County will have to wait until next season for another outing at Wembley but Flynn was pleased with the attitude and performance of his players.
“They’ve put their bodies on the line for the football club and they’ve given it their all so I’m very proud of them,” he said.
After a goalless 90 minutes, the game moved into a penalty shoot-out with both sides missing one of their first five penalties.
In sudden-death, Jamille Matt matched Darron Gibson from the spot before James Wilson edged Salford ahead.
Ryan Inniss was next up for County and the centre back’s effort clipped the woodwork before going over but Flynn was quick to praise the defender for stepping up.
”We sorted out the order for the top five, they all wanted to take one, and then it was only Jamille [Matt] and Ryan Inniss who wanted to take them.” said Manager Flynn.
