Newport County AFC are saddened to learn the news that former players John McSeveney and Alex Beattie have recently passed away.
Born in Scotland in February 1931, McSeveney was a flying winger who enjoyed a successful stint with the club between 1957 and 1961.
He made 172 appearances and netted more than 50 goals during his four-year spell with the club before departing for Hull City, where he called time on his playing career in 1964.
McSeveney also managed Barnsley, Nottingham Forest and Ireland-based clubs, Home Farm and Waterford. He passed away on Saturday 12th December at the age of 89.
Beattie, who was born in Newport, featured three times for the club in league and cup competitions when County were playing at Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire in the Hellenic League.
He was also fondly known for his days playing with Newport YMCA AFC in the Welsh Football League.
Beattie, who was the son of County legend George and older brother of Andy, passed away at the age of 66.
