Scot Bennett signs one year-deal

Now that we have received clarification regarding a variety of factors caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Newport County AFC are delighted to announce that Scot Bennett has signed a one-year contract with the club.

Bennett, who was expected to leave the club this summer, will now remain with Michael Flynn’s side until the summer of 2021 at least.

The 29-year-old made 37 appearances last season before the campaign was curtailed due to the pandemic.

Bennett joined the club on a permanent basis in 2016 following a successful loan spell from Notts County, becoming a key part of the Exiles’ defence as they avoided relegation from the Football League on the final day of the 2016-17 ‘Great Escape’ season.

The centre-back/midfielder, who has made 133 league appearances for the club, also featured in County’s Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final clash against Tranmere at Wembley in the 2018-19 campaign.

After finalising the deal, Bennett said: "I am delighted we’ve been able to get the deal finalised. Over the last few seasons, my family have really settled in the area and I am very happy that will continue. I would like to thank the supporters for their support, I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to be back playing now.”

Manager Michael Flynn added: “I am extremely pleased to get the deal over the line. He is an important player for this squad and one that I know that I can rely on. He’s also a great fit, both on and off the field, and it those qualities that will be a massive boost for our group.”
