REACTION | Michael Flynn Hereford

Manager Michael Flynn praised Newport County AFC's "professional" performance after concluding their pre-season preparations against Hereford United.

The Exiles put in an impressive display against the Vanaramma National League North club to wrap up their pre-season schedule, which saw them take on EFL and Non-League opposition throughout August.

Lewis Collins broke the deadlock inside the first half before goals from strikers Ryan Taylor and Saikou Janneh - both with their first for the club - extended County's lead in the second half.

Trialist 3 swept in a fourth in the final stages of the clash to a round off a complete performance for the Exiles.

And Flynn said he was impressed with County's clinical finishing at Edgar Street.

"We mixed the teams up and we want to have a look at a couple of players different positions. I thought they did their jobs well today," said Flynn.

"It’s always nice to win, keep a clean sheet and to see the new players scoring goals as well.

"Let’s not get carried away, Cardiff are a top-six Championship team and Hereford are a few leagues below us, so it’s different but at least the boys went about it in a professional way.

"It was really pleasing to see because they performed well out there today."

It has been a shorter pre-season schedule for the Exiles due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but Flynn says his players have taken on board the advice that they have been given ahead of the new season.

The Exiles' full focus will now be on next weekend's Carabao Cup first round clash against Swansea City at Rodney Parade, as they look to get their 2020/21 campaign under way with a victory against their south Wales rivals.

"Pre-season has been completely different but we’ve adapted well to the situation with everything that’s going on," Flynn added.

"They’re doing the things that we’re asking of them and taking on board everything that we’re giving them.

"Now we’ve got a very important week ahead of us to get ready for the Swansea game.

"We’ve got all of the boys in good shape and we’re all looking forward to next week now."
