Michael Flynn insists the main thing is that Newport County AFC are into the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup after scraping past eighth tier Maldon & Tiptree FC thanks to a stoppage time header from cup hero Padraig Amond.
Flynn again bemoaned the lack of clinicality on display at the Wallace Binder Ground from the Exiles, but admitted that the result was the most important thing as County booked themselves into the hat with the Premier League sides for the fourth time in five seasons.
“We got there in the end,” he affirmed. “The main thing was getting in the hat on Monday evening. But we can’t keep missing the chances we miss, we should have been out of sight first half. In the second half, we didn’t create as much where the two bad injuries unsettle everything.
“The injury list is up to nine or ten now and it’s killing us.
“There were scary moments and I think Maldon & Tiptree are credit to non league. They played very well, with no fear as if it was their cup final and they deserve a lot of credit.
“I try to be as honest as I can and I thought Maldon were exceptional.
“The most important thing is we’re through and we kept a clean sheet. We’ve got crossing and finishing to work on because again, it wasn’t good enough on a consistent basis.”
