Nineteen-year-old left-back Vashon Neufville has signed a loan deal with Newport County AFC until the end of the season from West Ham United and is available for selection in Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup tie with Leicester City.
A former England U16 and U17 international, Neufville joined the Hammers academy at U14s level from Chelsea, and has since progressed through the age-grades to become an integral part of the West Ham U18s and now the U23s squads.
Neufville has prior experience of playing against League Two clubs in the CheckaTrade Trophy - making five appearances in the competition against teams including Swindon Town, Northampton Town and Coventry City.
This season, Neufville has fought back from a knee injury to return to the U23s side in ‘Premier League 2’ during November and joins County having made five appearances in league and cup since his comeback.
Neufville has been in and around the West Ham United first-team on several occasions and was named as part of their matchday squad during last season's Emirates FA Cup’s encounter with Shrewsbury Town.
Manager Mike Flynn said: “I’m delighted to have got Vashon in from West Ham United. He’s a fantastic player, comes with good pedigree and adds quality to what we’ve already got in the squad.
“He’s very quick, strong and he’s got a very good left-foot. I believe we’ve got the right player who will give us balance down the left-side which I think was needed for the remainder of the season. Thank you to the hard work of Terry Westley at West Ham.”
