The DSA have voted goalkeeper, Joe Day, Player of the Month for October. Day has been superb this month making save after save to keep his team in games. His saves have helped the Exiles to a number of key draws against tough opposition.
October’s award was presented by DSA member, Kai. Kai is 6 Years Old and has autism. He has been attending games regularly since the 17/18 season (after our Great Escape), and now Kai holds a 100 Club Season Ticket with Mum Olivia and his Grandad Malcolm. Kai’s family are all big Newport County AFC supporters and they have all been attending matches for years.
Olivia said: “As a family, we voted for Joe Day because he’s made some great saves this month and all season. He has been a vital player for us … plus he’s one of Kai’s favourite players!
“With Kai on the ASD spectrum, he can find certain situations difficult, but he loves coming over to County and it’s really helped with his social skills. He’s become more confident especially in busy, noisy places.
“We’ve been DSA members for a couple of years and Colin and the DSA have helped us sort tickets. They always offer support if needed. Kai has had no problems and absolutely loves being at the matches but it’s comforting to know if we ever needed any support or advice the DSA are there.”
The DSA offer support to all fans from both teams attending matches and are always on-hand to assist with parking, support getting to seats, or generally offering a warm blanket.
The DSA Player of the Month has been sponsored by Hannah and Tony Cook landlord and lady on behalf of the Dodger Pub for the 2018/19 season. The pub has been supporting the club for a while now with many of our supporters enjoying meals, a drink and socialising before and after matches and we thank them for their continued support.
