County in the Community Futsal Team crowned winners at EFL Trust National Futsal Finals in Birmingham.
On Tuesday 22nd May, the County in the Community Development League Futsal squad travelled to Birmingham International Futsal Arena to compete in the EFL Trust National Finals.
16 teams who finished in the top 4 of their respective regions qualified to take part in the event. Having been drawn in a tough group with the likes of previous winners Blackpool FC, Huddersfield Town FC & Scunthorpe United FC, the County team thrived and were excellent during the early stages of the competition. They finished top of the table on 7 points and were deservedly through to the quarter final.
In the last eight, County were drawn against Carlisle United. This was a very tight game but a resilient performance throughout the team saw the Exiles win 3-2.
In the semi final, the lads came up against an unbeaten Fleetwood Town.
Trailing 2-1 and with just 7 seconds of the match remaining, a strike from Jake Clarke took a defection and flew into the bottom corner to take the game to a penalty shootout. Two great saves from Brandon Powell helped County come out on top.
In the final, County were up against Scunthorpe and ran out convincing 5-2 winners. It was probably the team's best performance of the event and came when it mattered most ensuring County won the tournament.
After the victory, Futsall Coach Dave Lewis said: "All involved, not just on the day but throughout the whole season, have been a credit to the Club and the County in the Community programme and have certainly deserved to become EFL national champions."
Well done to all the County in the Community
Futsall team!
