Newport County AFC academy talent Jay Foulston has received his first call-up to the Under-19 Wales squad as the side head to Croatia later this month. The squad will be flying to Zagreb on Saturday 17th March and will play two Friendly International Matches vs Croatia.

Jay was one of a number of Academy First Year Scholars given an opportunity to train and play with the First Team during pre-season.

After stand-out performances, First Team Manager Michael Flynn gave the 16-year-old a First Team Squad number.

Jay became the third youngest player ever to pull on a County shirt when he made his debut as a late substitute in the Carabao Cup match vs Southend United aged just 16 and 255 days.  He has since played a key role in the Checkatrade Trophy, made a number of appearances on the bench, and taken part in valuable work experience at top Championship Clubs.

On receiving news of his call-up, Jay said: “I am thrilled to have been called up to the Wales Under-19 squad. I have always wanted to represent my country, it's an honour for me and I just can't wait to get out on that pitch."

Manager Michael Flynn added: "I'm absolutely delighted for Jay, he's an excellent prospect and has an outstanding attitude towards the game."

NCAFC Academy Manager Byron Anthony was also keen to praise Jay for his attitude and work-rate: "We're all delighted for Jay, he has worked extremely hard this season and deserves his call up. This will be a great experience for him to go away an represent Wales U19s”.

Everyone at the Club would like to wish Jay all the best in Zagreb.
