This month, the members of the DSA voted Joe Day as their Player of the Month for February. Joe receives a number of votes for this award every month and has twice narrowly missed being crowned the winner. This month he claimed the trophy with 49% of the vote.
Not only had he kept two clean sheets, he’s also made some fantastic saves in other matches to earn his side important draws. He’s performed to a very high standard not just this month but throughout the season.
The person presenting the award this month is Claire Faulkner. The reason Claire voted for Joe was because: “He has been awesome and made some really good saves. He’s my favourite player overall.” Claire was also proud to see Joe and the team play at Wembley at the beginning of the month. The side faced tough opposition under all the scrutiny of a BT TV Audience and not didn’t just rise to the occasion but seemed to thrive on it. It was a proud moment for Claire and all the 7,200 County fans who made the trip.
Claire has been involved with the DSA from the very beginning. Claire and her husband Colin founded the DSA three years ago as a way to make sure that everyone who attends a Newport County AFC match will have the best experience regardless of disability. You can usually see Claire working her socks off on a matchday by helping with a number of tasks, from giving out blankets or ponchos to giving out information to fans.
If you would like to find out more information about the Disabled Supporters Association you can visit the DSA Page or visit their Facebook page, you can also follow them on Twitter @AmberDSA. If you think the DSA can help you attend games, you can contact them via social media or email them at info@amberdsa.wales
Did you know the DSA has a dedicated matchday phone number? The phone is on for 5 hours before kick-off and 30 minutes after the full-time whistle. Further details can be found on the DSA Page.
If you’d like to join the DSA and have a chance of presenting the Player of the Month award for March, please complete the online Membership Form or ask a Matchday Volunteer at a fixture.
