Newport County AFC sign midfielder Andrew Crofts on a one-year deal

Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Andrew Crofts on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old boasts almost 500 League appearances and 29 International caps for Wales, most recently appearing in Chris Coleman’s final match in charge of Wales vs Panama.

Crofts is often described as a tough-tackling, no-nonsense midfielder and is able to play both in a holding role or in a more dynamic role.  Speaking to iFollow Exiles, Crofts also describes himself as a “winner” which he proved when earning promotion to the Premier League with Norwich City in 2011.  Crofts spent a year at the top level with The Canaries before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Championship.

Crofts has spent much of his career in the Championship and is a former teammate of Michael Flynn during their time at Gillingham together.

On signing for the Exiles, Andrew Crofts said: “I’m really excited to sign for Newport County AFC.  I’ve been speaking to the gaffer for a couple of weeks now and as soon as we started talking, I was really interested in signing for this Club.  I played with Michael Flynn at Gillingham and he was a winner.  I loved playing with him and I can’t wait to play for him now with him being my gaffer.”

Manager Michael Flynn added: “Andrew coming in is a massive signing for the football club.  He’s someone I know well from our time playing together at Gillingham and he’s gone on to have a fantastic career making nearly 500 career appearances and playing in the Premier league with Norwich City.  He’s also represented Wales 29 times and recently on stand by for the squad.  He’s the ultimate professional and he’s in fantastic condition.  He’s shown real enthusiasm to sign for the football Club and also still has ambitions of playing higher and hopefully that will be with Newport County AFC.”

Andrew joins last weeks signings Fraser Franks, Jamille Matt, Charlie Cooper and Keanu Marsh-Brown.
