Newport County AFC manager Michael Flynn is to officially re-open one of the most famous retail names in the city this week.
Flynn will be guest of honour as legendary menswear store Chessmen stages a special event at its Newport Retail Park store on Friday.
The manager will sign autographs and pose for photos with County fans and Chessmen customers during the evening.
The event takes place at the store, based on the ground floor of the Tesco Extra development, from 4pm to 8pm.
Chessmen reopened its refurbished store last month and Friday’s event marks both its official reopening and its 50th anniversary.
Chessmen owner John Stanaway said: “Since refurbishing the store, we have been delighted with the positive response from customers; some new, many existing and others who hadn’t visited the store for years. Sales are on the up which is great for Chessmen’s future.”
Flynn said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to open the new-look Chessmen store. For as long as I can remember, Chessmen has been a part of Newport and it’s great to see the shop going from strength to strength again.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the shop looks after its refurbishment and I hope to see lots of County fans and Chessman customers on Friday.”
Friday’s event will include a drinks reception and music from a local DJ.
Chessmen is offering a 20% discount on all purchases made between 4pm and 8pm on Friday.
And some lucky attendees will win gift vouchers in Chessmen’s ‘golden ticket’ promotion. Customers will be handed envelopes during the evening with some of them containing gift vouchers worth £50, £25 or £10.
Brands stocked by Chessmen include Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green, Farah, Original Penguin, Guide London and Mish Mash.
Join Michael Flynn there.
