18-year-old forward Antoine Semenyo has joined the Exiles on a season-long loan from Bristol City. The eighteen-year-old joined Bristol’s academy after impressing for SGS College. After welcoming Semenyo to the Academy, Brian Tinnion (City’s loan manager) told BCFC.co.uk: “[We] spotted Antoine liked what we saw. He spent a short time on trial with us before putting pen to paper.”
In January 2018, Semenyo signed his first professional contract at the Club before spending a month on loan at National League South Side Bath City FC. Semenyo scored a very impressive 6 goal in 9 appearances before returning to City’s youth set-up.
His performances in their U23s side earned him his Football League debut on the final day of the 2017/18 Season coming off the bench in The Robins 3-2 defeat to Sheffield United.
Semenyo is looking forward to proving himself in League Two. Speaking to iFollow Exiles after finalising the deal, Semenyo said: "It’s only been about a year in the academy now so I needed that initial experience and I’m now happy to get this loan at Newport County AFC in League Two.
"I’m sure it’ll be a very good loan for me and I’m ready to impress."
Mike Flynn said he watched me last season and he realised that I was one of the star players in that division.
He felt like I would do really well coming over here so he gave me a call to join the club and I was happy to join. I want to come here, impress, and improve my game.
Manager Michael Flynn added: "Very happy to have got Antoine over the line. He is a young, hungry, strong talent who has just signed a new deal with Bristol City which shows how highly they think of him. I would like to thank Bristol City for their help in getting this done and long let the good relationship continue."
