Foodbank food collected

Newport County AFC are delighted to announce that throughout January at both the Morecambe home "Tin Pound a Ticket" match and a separate visit to the Stow Park Church Centre Foodbank, 541.4 kg of food was raised and has been donated to people in need all over Newport.

The need to donate to local foodbanks was first highlighted to the Club by County Season Ticket Holder Jim Drewett.

The Club, recognising the importance of giving back to and supporting its local community, agreed to help and - with Jim's help - decided to set up a visit to Stow Park Church Centre to donate some much needed food and toiletries.

As well as that individual visit, the  "Tin Pound a Ticket" scheme, where all Supporters could attend the Sky Bet League 2 game against Morecambe for just £10 with any canned food item donated, resulted in a fantastic amount of food given to Newport's Foodbank.

Operational Chairman Gavin Foxall said after the visit to Stow Park Church Centre: "It's really important that the Club gives back to its community and we're pleased to be here donating food to people who really need it. We hope that today's donation and our promotion for our home match vs Crawley Town will make a real difference to people in Newport."

We'd like to thank all supporters who donated so generously to such a great cause.

Lynda Johnson, who works for Newport's Foodbank said "Throughout December and January, we have seen an increase in people accessing our Foodbank, so your donation will go a long way to helping needy people in our area."
