EXCLUSIVE | Sean Rigg - Forest Green Rovers away

Exiles midfielder Sean Rigg made his fifth appearance of the season in the 2-0 Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Forest Green Rovers.

Rigg has started four of those games, with a further substitute appearance, and already has an assist to his name, supplying the cross for Frank Nouble’s hat-trick goal at the weekend.

Post-match, he spoke exclusively to iFollow Exiles about the Checkatrade Trophy opener, the Rodney Parade homecoming last weekend and his plans for the season.

On the Forest Green game…

“I think we started okay.

“But once they got the goal, that gave them a bit of a lift and I think they out-played us then in the first-half.

“We knew we had to come out second-half and get into it a bit more. I think we did, we put pressure on them at times but obviously they nicked a goal and that kind of killed the game for us.”

On fellow midfielder Ben Tozer making his first start for eight months…

“Yeah, I was buzzing for him to get a run-out.

“Obviously he’s been out for a very long time so it’s nice to see him back and he did well.”

On the challenge that Exeter City will pose on Saturday…

“We want to win every game.

“We know we can’t win every game, some days you can’t because you’re just not on it like you are other days so today is just one of them.

“Moving on and building on tonight is the best thing to do. Focus now on Saturday, concentrate on Exeter City now, put tonight to the back of our head and go again and get the three points Saturday hopefully.”

On last weekend’s homecoming at Rodney Parade…

“Obviously Chesterfield went 1-0 up in the first-half, but we knew we could get back into it.

“And when we turn it on, we really do turn it on and we were clinical so it was a great day, all the lads enjoyed it and it was great to be back playing at home.

“The pitch was really nice, lovely surface. Obviously it’s as flat as it will be so hopefully it stays like that rather than last season.”

On targets for the rest of the season…

“I don’t really set targets, I just take each day as it comes, each game as it comes and try to give my all in every game.”
