academy preview bournemouth

County's U18’s sideface AFC Bournemouth this Saturday, looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat against Exeter City last weekend.

We preview the Young Exiles fixture against the current Youth Alliance Cup winners, ahead of their match this weekend at Lliswerry School.

Past Matches

The Young Exiles have already played Bournemouth at Lliswerry School this season, losing 3-1 in the Youth Alliance Cup last month with Owen Taylor scoring the only goal for County.

Our first game of 2017 was against The Cherries - which resulted in a 2-0 loss at home on January 7th.

However, the Young Exiles did register a win against the South-Coast side in the 16/17 season, with one goal enough for all three points in a narrow 1-0 win.

Manager and Staff

AFC Bournemouth U18’s are currently managed by Alan Connell – he was given the role in July having worked within the academy last season.

The 34-year-old is a former professional footballer - Connell’s former sides include Bournemouth, Brentford and Bradford City after a 15-year career as a forward.

He is currently assisted by Graham Mills, with Joe Roach Bournemouth’s Head of Academy.

Last Five Fixtures

Connell’s side have started the season brilliantly – they currently sit second in the EFL Youth Alliance South.

Bournemouth are currently undefeated this season and they’ve won three of their past five matches, only dropping points against Exeter City and Portsmouth.
