NEWPORT COUNTY AFC SECURE SIGNING OF MICKEY DEMETRIOU

Newport County AFC are pleased to announce the signing of defender Mickey Demetriou on a free transfer

The twenty six year old defender joins the Exiles in time for this weekend’s Sky Bet League two encounter with Colchester United at Rodney Parade.

The Durrington born defender was signed by Kidderminster in 2011 from Eastbourne Borough. Mickey played 108 games for Kidderminster Harriers before joining Shrewsbury Town in 2014. Mickey played 43 games for Shrewsbury Town and has also had a loan spell at Cambridge United.

Speaking after the deal had been agreed manager Graham Westley said “MD was a League 2 promotion winner just 2 seasons ago.

His ability to win games at this level is exactly what we need at the Club.

It hasn't been easy to persuade him on board. But now he has put pen to paper, we will be a much stronger outfit.

His character and footballing qualities are strongly evident and his presence will be a significant factor in our resurgence.

The deal will run to the end of the season.
