Newport County AFC have agreed a loan deal for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White. The 19-year-old has made two appearances for the South coast side including a debut in last season's 4-0 EFL Cup win over Colchester United.
Ben has impressed in Albion's academy, and was a star performer in the club's under-23 team who reached the knock-out stages of the 2016/17 Checkatrade Trophy. A calm presence in defence, he is comfortable both at centre back and right back and performs with an experience beyond his years.
He will take Squad Number 6 as he settles in for a Season in South Wales.
On completing the deal, manager Michael Flynn said “This is a big coup for the Club. I'm delighted to get Ben in. He's got a very high pedigree and is tipped to play Premier League in his future career and I know we've beaten off a lot of interest as Ben was involved with Brighton & Hove Albion's first team over the Summer.
"I'd like to thank Brighton for their help with this deal and wish them all the best for the Season."
Ben said: “I’m delighted to have signed a loan deal with Newport County AFC. After speaking to the manager, I knew that I wanted to come to this Club and help push the team forward this season. After 4 seasons at under-23s, I’m also looking forward to testing myself in league football against experienced players.”
Ben will be appearing in Saturday’s match vs Stevenage subject to international clearance.
