On the 25th march 2017 our youth team looking to continue their unbeaten run as they travelled to Luton Town in the EFL youth alliance merit league 1.
The game was played at Luton Town’s first team training ground Ely Way; a windy day but a quality pitch. The game started with a great tempo, the home side earning their first corner of the game just 2 minutes in. Luckily for the young Exiles they couldn’t capitalise.
The first 30 minutes of the game was played out in the middle of the park. County keeper Rhys Davies didn't have to make a save and the Luton back line had had a quiet opening half hour too.
The first real chance of the game fell to 2nd year Dion Molyneux just after the half hour mark, a wide free kick whipped in well from left footed Joe Hunt found the centre back with space in front of goal, however Molyneux was not able to get a touch on the ball as it continued out for a goal kick.
10 minutes before the break, the dead lock was broken. Molyneux found himself unmarked again in the box finishing from close range, after a great delivery from a corner and striker Momodou Touray doing his job well. Another well worked set piece has got the youth team yet another goal this season.
The scores at half time was 1-0 to the Young Exiles.
As the second half went on Luton didn’t really trouble the back line and goalkeeper until the closing minutes of the game where they got to to the bi-line for a cut back that found their striker on the edge of the box. The ball bounced nicely for him as he attempted a looping header into the top right hand corner, 1st year Rhys Davies showing great agility to spring across his goal and keep it out.
The game finished 1-0 and earned Newport 4 wins from 4
