COUNTY WIN LG PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Manager Warren Feeney will receive the award for the Club's 3-0 victory over Portsmouth last weekend.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Newport County following their excellent 3-0 victory against Portsmouth in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday 12th March 2016.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

Newport County Manager, Warren Feeney, will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

The win, which lifted Newport County to 18th in the league, was the second time in recent weeks whereby Feeney’s side had overcome promotion chasing teams in their bid to maintain their League Two status.

Darren Jones opened the scoring in the first half to give Newport the advantage going into the break. Portsmouth’s Gary Roberts was then dismissed for a second bookable offence on 59 minutes.

Newport took full advantage of their extra player in the final half hour with in-form striker Scott Boden scoring his seventh goal as many games and substitute Dean Morgan putting the game beyond doubt late on.

Director Gavin Foxall said, “The board were delighted that Warren and the team have been recognised by such a prestigious panel."

He added, “It was a fantastic result and reflective of all the hard work and meticulous planning.”

Feeney’s Newport has enjoyed a great start to 2016, losing only 3 times in 12 matches in League Two, winning 50% of games played.
