DARREN JONES AGREES CONTRACT EXTENSION

Newport County AFC can today confirm that defender Darren Jones has accepted a one-year contract extension.

Jones rejoined the Club back in January and went on to make seventeen appearances for the Exiles during the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign and scored our opening goal of our 3-0 victory against Portsmouth.

The thirty-two-year-old defender has a wealth of experience of playing in the Football League, with spells at Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Hereford United, AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town and Shrewsbury.

Speaking about extending his stay at his hometown Club, the defender said, “I’m happy to be staying here for another season and now focused on getting back into the swing of things during pre-season.”

“Warren is a great Manager and there will be a couple of new faces in the squad, so it as an exciting period as we look ahead to the coming season.”

Manager Warren Feeney added, “Darren did a very good job for us since he came back to the Club in January.”

“He is a good character to have in the changing room, as he makes the other players around him raise their games and I'm happy that Darren has chosen to extend his stay with us for next season, as we continue to build a competitive squad.”
