REACTION: ANDREW HUGHES

The defender gives his thoughts after the Exiles 1-0 defeat to Leyton Orient...

Speaking to the press after the game, the centre-back confessed that losing the game at the Matchroom Stadium was frustrating, but the performance of the team was a positive to take away from the game.

“To lose in the manner that we did is very frustrating.”

“I thought the team played very well tonight. We kept the ball well throughout the evening and I don’t think we deserved to lose the game, a draw would have been a fair result.”

The defender lined up alongside new signing Darren Jones at the heart of the Exiles defence and admitted that he was impressed by how the former captain fitted back into the squad.

“He slotted straight back into the team,” added the defender.

“It was like the old days this evening. He has managed to come straight into the team and did well this evening.”

“I played with Darren all of last season and I enjoyed playing with him again.”

“Before the game Darren was telling me that he hasn’t played in eight weeks or something like that, but it didn’t show at all this evening.”

The Exiles face the long journey to Morecambe on Saturday, a game that Hughes believes the Exiles can take something from.

“I think that we are in a false position in the league at the moment. If we play like we have done this evening, then we will win more games than we will lose.”

“Morecambe on Saturday is another tough game, but if we reproduce the same level of performance, then we can be confident of getting a result.”
