MATCH PREVIEW: DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE

All the details you need, ahead of the visit of Dagenham and Redbridge...

Looking at the visitors

For the second time in a week, Newport find themselves up against a side close to them in the relegation battle at the bottom of Sky Bet League 2.

After beating York last weekend, County go into this weekend’s game trying to increase the six point gap between themselves and the bottom two.

Dagenham and Redbridge have themselves won two out of their last three games and are two points above the relegation zone, although bottom club York City are only three points behind them with a game in hand.

Jamie Cureton and Christian Doidge are their top scorers with five goals each in all competitions and with fixtures against Cambridge United and Wycombe Wanders coming up in the next few weeks, Dagenham and Redbridge will be targeting the game against Newport as somewhere they could pick up all three points.

Last meeting

It was a 0-0 draw at Victoria Road as Newport still looked for their first win of the season which would come the following weekend against Carlisle United.

Dagenham and Redbridge themselves had only had one league win up to this point so both sides were looking to kick start their season before too many more games were played.

It was a clean game without a single card being shown but the goalless draw left the two sides occupying both of the relegation places.

Last time out

It was FA Cup heartbreak for Newport County as they fell by two goals to one at the hands of Championship side Blackburn Rovers, after the visitors had taken the lead through an early penalty, Mark Byrne was able to equalise before half time only for Jordan Rhodes to send the visitors through after he converted his header home after a cross from the left hand side.

The man in charge

Darren Deadman is the man in the middle for this weekend’s fixture, with his assistants Andrew Bennett and Robert Dabbs, the fourth official is Brett Huxtable.

Deadman has taken charge of Newport before this season in their 2-2 draw with Northampton Town at the end of October and on fourth other occasions in different seasons. He handed out 6 yellow cards in the 4-1 win over Wimbledon, 2 in the 3-0 defeat to Northampton and 6 in the 2-0 win over York last season and also handed out 6 yellow cards in the win against Portsmouth in December 2013.
