Captain Mark Byrne looks ahead to Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers…
After leading the side to triumphs over Barnet and Brackley, the midfielder is looking forward to Saturday’s third-round tie against Blackburn Rovers.
“The Club hasn’t been this far in the competition for thirty years or so and it is going to be a great occasion representing the Club in the third-round of the FA Cup,” said Byrne
“I watched the draw at home and as soon as you see your club’s number being drawn out, you can’t help but stand up and get a little excited.”
The captain believes that playing front of a packed out Rodney Parade will be useful for the team, with the vocal home support behind them.
“I think it will be beneficial to us playing at home,” he added
“Since Paul Lambert has come in Blackburn have started to pick up some good results, but the pressure is going to be off us this game and we can relax and go out there looking to pull off an upset. Against a team like Blackburn it is an advantage to be playing at home.”
“In our recent game against Plymouth Argyle you could hear the crowd being very vocal and spurring us on. We have had some good attendances since I have been at the Club, but over recent times the crowds have dipped slightly. Once you get a good crowd in, you can hear them get behind the lads and the whole team gets a buzz off it.”
