MATCH PREVIEW: CREWE ALEXANDRA (H)

Brush up on all facts, ahead of our first meeting in the Football League against Crewe Alexandra.

After a defeat on the road against Luton, County return to Rodney Parade hoping to get their season back on track in a first ever competitive meeting between themselves and Crewe Alexandra.

Looking at the visitors

Unbeaten so far this season in all competitions, Crewe Alexandra would be forgiven for feeling confident ahead of their first meeting with Newport County ahead of their second round tie in the League Cup away at Blackburn Rovers. With seven goals in four games from four different players they do not have a problem finding the net with Ryan Lowe on three already for the season, loan signing Alex Kiwomya already has two to his name. Manager Steve Davis certainly knows his starting eleven for the League 2 campaign, with ten of his players starting all three of the previous matches.

Last Time Out

A late penalty sank County to a third defeat in four this season which leaves them in 18th position in the league. After Jennison Myrie-Williams scored his third goal for the club to level the game in the second half, a second Cameron McGeehan goal deep into stoppage time meant that the Exiles left Luton without adding any points on the board. County picked up six yellow cards in the fixture, with Mark Randall picking up his third in three league games.

The Man in Charge

John Brooks is in charge for this fixture with his assistants Christopher Husband and Matt Eva, the fourth official is Marvyn Amphlett. This is Brooks’ third season on the league list and has already handed out 12 yellow cards and a single red card in the two games he has refereed so far this season. This is his first season refereeing at League 2 level and therefore he has not taken charge of County or Crewe before. In the 39 games he has controlled in his career he has handed out 124 yellow cards at an average of 3.17 a game and 4 red cards at an average of just over one in every ten games.
