Newport County AFC is delighted to welcome Warren Feeney to the Club as Assistant Manager…
Feeney is reunited with manager John Sheridan, under whom he played under at Plymouth Argyle.
Warren, who played in South Wales with both Cardiff and Swansea, has been managing in Northern Ireland with Belfast outfit Linfield F.C, since April 2014.
During his first full season in charge of Linfield, Warren guided the club to a second place league finish and subsequent qualification for this seasons Europa League. He leaves the club some two points clear at the top of the NIFL Premiership.
The former Northern Ireland striker has significant experience of playing in the Football League, with spells at Bournemouth, Stockport, Luton and Plymouth and then progressed into management with a nine-month spell at Salisbury Town as assistant manager, before moving back to his native Belfast.
“I have fond memories of playing in this part of the world, my family home is still in Langstone and I have undertaken my coaching qualifications through the FA of Wales. It is also a bonus to be reunited with John Sheridan.” said the former Northern Ireland international.
“I saw this as the perfect club to return to the Football League with and I look forward to be involved with the first-team on a day-to-day basis.”
“The season is still in the early stages and looking at the players the club have at their disposal I am confident that we can negotiate our way off the bottom of the table.”
Newport County AFC Chief Executive Jason Turner added, “The Club would like to place on record our thanks to the board of Linfield FC for allowing Warren to take up this opportunity.”
Warren will link up with the team for training in the latter stages of the week, in time for Saturday’s visit to Mansfield Town. Mike Flynn and Byron Anthony will continue to assist.
