Newport County's 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley last night puts their play-off rivals under pressure today.
Goals from Aaron O'Connor and Shaun Jeffers helped add pressure to County's fellow play-off hopefuls who all play today with Friday night's three points moving County up to 6th in the Sky Bet League 2 table. The win sees County extend their unbeaten run to four matches.Following the game Wayne Hatswell told BBC Radio Wales "It was a fantastic win, well deserved and hard-fought. In a lot of areas we were man for man and we coped really well with that. We probably frustrated them in the end and I know we probably got lucky with the first goal, but the second goal was just hitting them on the break."
Today sees Bury, Southend, Luton and Plymouth in action, whilst 9th placed Stevenage face league leaders, Burton on Monday evening. Whatever the outcome in this afternoon's matches, County will know that they will end the weekend inside the play off places.
Fourth placed, and in-form Bury entertain 5th placed Southend in the game of the day at the top end of the table. 7th placed Luton Town could draw back level with County, but they'll have to overcome 11th placed Northampton first.
On paper, Plymouth have the easier of the matches of the top ten, but they'll need to face a Cheltenham Town side who are fighting for League 2 survival. In fact the Robins currently sit four places higher than Plymouth in the current League 2 form table. Plymouth manager John Sheridan has admitted that from now on it's all about the points rather than the style of football. "I want everyone to be happy at the end of the season by us achieving something, whether the football's poor or whether the football's good" he told BBC Devon.
On Monday Stevenage face top of the table Burton Albion in the only League 2 game of the evening.
