Gary Plumley inducted to the Hall of Fame

Newport County AFC Hall of Fame founder Andrew Taylor has nominated former goalkeeper Gary Plumley. Gary joined, aged 20, for what became known as‘The Great Escape’ season of 1976/77 and was awarded ‘Player of the Year.’ In 78/79 he starred in the FA Cup defeat of West Ham United and then even more impressively became a part of the legendary 1979/80 ‘Season of Triumph’, winning promotion for only the 2nd time in the club’s history and for the first time the Welsh Cup. That led to him contributing the following year in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
