Looking at...Morecambe

Chris Gadsby continues to take a look at our opponents for the season ahead...

Full Name:Morecambe Football Club

Nickname: The Shrimps

Founded: 1920

Ground: Globe Arena (Capacity 6,476 of which 2,247 are seated)

Record against County: Played 4, Won 4, Drawn 0, Lost 0, Goals For 11, Goals Against 5

Last season: 11th – Morecambe began the season on a great run of form winning their first four games to top the table before only winning 13 out of the remaining 42 games, seeing them slip to mid table. They had one of the best away records in the league winning 9 and drawing 6 of their games on the road and did the double over Bury, Southend, Luton and County. Much like County towards the end of last season, they struggled to pick up points against sides in the bottom half of the table, losing 12 games to sides who finished lower than them in the table, compared to only 5 to teams above.

Key Player: After selling joint top scorer Jack Redshaw for an undisclosed fee to Blackpool, Morecambe will be hoping that Kevin Ellison can be as prolific in front of goal in the upcoming campaign as he was last year. After Grimsby signed second top scorer Amond, the Shrimps will be relying on Ellison more this year.

Fixtures: September 12th (H) January 30th (A)

Prediction:Morecambe are a very good side and have the potential for a playoff place next season. They need to improve against bottom half sides as they lost a lot of games by a single goal. They only finished 8 points away from the playoffs but it was the length of time between wins that left the Shrimps on the wrong side looking in in May. They will achieve a top ten finish next season in my opinion and could well challenge County for a playoff spot.
