PREVIEW: Cambridge United

Chris Gadsby takes a closer look at Saturday's opposition

DATE: Saturday 8th August, 3pm

VENUE: Abbey Road Stadium, Newport

Focusing on Newport

Newport County begin their 2015/16 campaign with an away trip to Cambridge United, a ground which manager Terry Butcher has fond memories of from his time as a player. Mark Byrne will be relishing the opportunity to lead the side out in his role as captain.

Looking at the home side

After their FA Cup run against Manchester United last year, Cambridge have been able to strongly boost their squad over summer and will be feeling confident going into the campaign. They have had a good pre-season and will be hoping to hit the ground running and repeat the 4-0 victory they secured over County in January last season.

Getting there

There are two routes to get to the Abbey Stadium, both roughly the same distance and both take around three and a half hours.

Route 1) M50, M5, M42, M6 and A14

Route 2) M4, M25, A1(M), A505

It is also possible to travel to the game via train by taking a service to London Paddington, the underground on either the Circle or Hammersmith and City line to Kings Cross St. Pancras and then a Great Northern service to Cambridge. This takes roughly four and a quarter hours.
