Sky Bet Weekend Preview - 2nd October

Sky Bet Weekend Preview - 2nd October

Sky Bet League 2 leaders Burton Albion host Cambridge United on Friday night in one of two games to start off the latest round of action.

The Brewers are 10/20 favourites to claim victory and the three points would see them pull further clear of second-placed Wycombe Wanderers in the standings.

Wycombe host fifth-placed Northampton Town in what looks to be the pick of Saturday matches. Wanderers have been priced up at 11/8 to pick up the three points, the visiting Cobblers are 21/10 to win and the draw can be backed at the same price.

Bury, who sit third, take on Tranmere Rovers at Gigg Lane and the Shakers are the odds-on favourites at 8/11 to claim victory.

David Flitcroft’s men are the 3/1 favourites with Sky Bet to finish the season on top, Burton follow in the outright betting at 7/2 and Southend United, currently fourth in the table, are third in the odds at 8/1.

The Shrimpers are at home to the Shrimps on Saturday when Morecambe make the long trip south to Southend. The play-off dwelling visitors are the outsiders at 4/1 to secure the win.

Southend are 3/4 favourites to bag the victory and the draw at Roots Hall can be backed at 12/5.
Shrewsbury Town are the side currently in the final play-off place.

The Shrews meet Plymouth Argyle in Devon on Saturday and start as the 7/5 favourites for the win.

The mid-table Pilgrims can be supported at 21/10 and the draw has been made available at the same price.
At the other end of the standings, bottom-of-the-table Carlisle United look to build on their first win of the Sky Bet League 2 season when they face Hartlepool United.

The Cumbrians can be backed at 21/10 for another three points, Hartlepool are the 13/10 favourites and the draw is an 11/5 shot.

Oxford United sit second-bottom and target a second victory of the campaign when they host Newport County.

The U’s are made the 13/10 favourites by Sky Bet to claim the win, Newport can be backed at 11/5 and the draw is available at the same price.

Portsmouth, Cheltenham Town, Luton Town and Mansfield Town are all level on points with seventh-placed Shrewsbury and harbour ambitions of ending Saturday in the play-off sports.

Pompey (9/4 to win) travel to York City (13/10), Cheltenham (11/10) host AFC Wimbledon (5/2), Luton (9/4) go to Stevenage (5/4) and Mansfield (evens) meet Accrington Stanley (11/4).

Friday night’s other Sky Bet League 2 clash sees Dagenham and Redbridge host resurgent Exeter City.

The Daggers are the 13/10 favourites for the win, Exeter can be backed at 21/10 and the draw is 9/4.

Sky Bet’s top tips:

Exeter to score last against Dagenham at 6/5.
Exeter have won three matches in a row and scored the final goal in all of those victories.

Chris Whelpdale to score during the 90 minutes for Stevenage against Luton at 4/1.
The Stevenage midfielder has netted three goals in his last two games and will provide a big threat to Luton on Saturday.

Oxford to draw 0-0 against Newport at 8/1.
Newport have drawn their last two away games 0-0 and Oxford’s last home match against Stevenage also finished goalless.
