Preview for Chesterfield away
County face a trip to the Derbyshire this weekend to take on a Chesterfield side fresh from a visit to Wembley after they were defeated 3-1 last Sunday by Peterborough in the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Saturday’s visit to the Proact Stadium will be a tough assignment for The Exiles with Chesterfield sitting in third place in Sky Bet League 2 five points clear of the chasing pack in the last promotion spot.
However, Justin Edinburgh hopes the players feed off the result of the reverse fixture at the start of December which County won 3-2 with goals from Danny Crow, Andy Sandell and Adam Chapman.
Chapman serves the first of his 3 match suspension for this game whilst Darcy Blake also sits out with a 1 match ban, both players being sent off against Portsmouth last weekend.
‘Adam has been disciplined and the matter has been dealt with internally. The challenge was unlike him and only he knows why it happened. It give others opportunities now with likes of Max (Porter), Burgey, Tom Naylor and Pipey. We also have a ready-made replacement in Yakubu for Darcy Blake as he came through unscathed after the Portsmouth game.
It will be a tough proposition at Chesterfield as they are chasing promotion but the game before Christmas at Rodney Parade showed what we are capable of and we will have to be at our best on Saturday as were in the home fixture.’
Danny Crow is set to miss out with a back injury whilst Aaron O’Connor and Lenny Pidgeley edge ever closer to a return to full training but this week comes too soon for both players.
It is pay on the day for Newport County AFC supporters with ticket prices as follows:
Adult: £18
Concession (aged 17-18/65 and over): £12
Juvenile (16 and under): £8
There is an Away Ticket Office, located on the North Stand, which is open from approx 12.30pm on match-day. Please be advised that it is cash only at the away ticket office.
